February News Article
Feb 10th: Stated Session
Feb 14th: Happy Valentine's Day!
Feb 15th: LoS Mystery Dinner, 2 pm, Circus Park
I would like to start with thanking everyone who helped with the Circus, from working at the Event Center, helping in the kitchen at the Masonic Center, or helping with cleanup after it was all over. My hat's (crown's?) off to you! This is our main fundraiser for the year and it's a lot of work but worth it in the end.
We have a much needed break this month. Next month will be busy with the annual meeting and election as well as our Installation.
Lady's Oriental Shrine is having their annual Mystery Dinner at Circus Park on February 15th. This is always a lot of fun and I encourage you to make reservations with Peggy. Cost is $20.
Many of you know this already, but PQ Betty Jo McGlone passed in December. The announcement made it to me after the deadline for the News and I could not get it in the January issue. She was living at the Masonic Home in Alma. Her sister, PQ Helen McGlone, is still living at the Masonic Home. I'm sure she'd appreciate visitors if you have the time.
I hope everyone is keeping warm this month. Spring is on the way!

February 14th: Happy Valentine’s Day

Happy New Year!
It’s a new year and new beginnings. There was a new Potentate installed last month, and we have the Circus to look forward to this month.
Please come out and help at the Masonic Center if you can for the Circus food prep. The Walkthrough is Saturday night, and we will need extra help that day and night both in the kitchen and at the Event Center. Please contact Elizabeth Hussey PQ, Pr. Recorder if you can help either place.
We will be having the Indoor Yard Sale in the coming months. Start saving your items for donation. We’ll be looking for books, electronics, jewelry, dishes, and the like.
Speaking of donations, our items were sent to the hospital recently! The Transportation Unit is gracious in taking our things down so we don’t have to spend up to half of our money in postage to send it down. Every little bit helps.
I hope that everyone who’s been ill this past winter is getting better. I know that Mary Alice Parcell PQ was in the hospital for many days with breathing issues. I hope she is doing better! I caught a cold over the holidays and it’s mostly gone now.
My year is starting to wind down. It’s been a great one. I am looking forward to what our current Pr. Royal has in store for next year and I will render her as much assistance as I can.

Alpena Nile Club Visit
Here are all the things the Club bought and made for the hospital. Wow, there was a lot of work that went into these. I especially love the quilts. Everything fit into our trunk and we were able to get it back to our house safely.
Here are the lovely centerpieces that Donna Towlerton and Cheryl Lemke made. They were made out of wine bottles and vines from Cheryl's backyard! How cool is that?
The lunch was wonderful! I'm pleased that we're doing a lunch now; it makes for a long day, but we can save some money by not having a hotel.

October 1st: Alpena Nile Club Visit
Wow, what a summer!
In June, we went to Supreme Session, and I will have a report for the September session about what legislation passed. We had lots of fun, and enjoyed all of the pomp and circumstance of the whole week. The installation was particularly impressive, as Supreme Queen-elect Laura came in on an Egyptian-style barge, propelled by some “peasants”. Very cool. If you get a chance to go to a Supreme Session, please do, because you will have loads of fun and learn a lot too. Next year, Session will be in Portland, Oregon.
We had a successful Supreme Queen visit on August 10th. Laura appreciated all of the courtesies extended to her, and she enjoyed the ceremonial. I would like to thank all of the Past Queens and Ladies of the Household who stepped forward and took positions in the Temple. I also would like to thank my brother, Donn Hussey, who put on our steak fry for the dinner. He did a wonderful job and all of the ladies thank you.
On October 1st, we'll be having our annual visit to the Alpena Nile Club. More information will be available at the September session. I will also post something to the blog when I get more information about it.
I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to anyone who's been ill this past summer. We hope you are feeling better.

Wow.
What a night.
I'd like to thank all of my officers for doing a wonderful job tonight at the Supreme Quen visit Ceremonial; my mother, who kept me on track all throughout the day; my brother for cooking our steaks; Jim Fitzpatrick, who did the sign; and Supreme Queen Laura, who made me feel more relaxed on the throne.
I had a good time, though it was nerve-wracking.
What an awesome night. I look forward to taking Laura down to Detroit, then travelling to London, Ontario on Saturday.
Thank you, everyone. I really, really appreciate all the hard work you do to help the Temple succeed in events like this.

Nile Summer Picnic
The Fisher's are getting ready to host the annual Daughters of the Nile picnic. It will be held at 3483 Creekwood on Sat. July 16th at 4PM. Please bring a dish to pass and your table service. We will have hot dogs, brats, iced tea and lemonade. Coffee too for those addicts. If you wish something else to drink please bring it with you. We have plenty of chairs, so you don't have to drag any with you.
The pool is open, so bring your swimsuits. Steve will also be running a few trains. If you need directions, please call me at 777-3024. We are hoping to see you there for a fun time.
Pr. Royal, Ellen Fisher

Please come out and have fun! This is a great event if you have potential members that you want us to meet! There will be plenty of food and fun for all.

- July 16th: Nile Picnic, 4 PM

- August 9th: Rehearsal for Supreme Queen visit, 7 PM (Unit), 7:30 PM (Temple)
- August 10th: Supreme Queen Visit; Dinner, 5:30 PM; Ceremonial to follow
It's been an exciting time already! I'm still getting used to the idea that I'm Queen. It's different from anything else I've ever done.
We welcomed Pr. Pattie Goodrich into our Household last month; I hope she had an enjoyable time of the ceremonial and will enjoy her time in Temple. She's been helping us with the circuses the past couple of years, and she's really been enjoying that.
Supreme Session is coming up fast. I'm going with the following ladies: Elizabeth Hussey, PQ (Pr. Recorder); Pr. Ellen Fisher (Pr. Royal); and PQ Ellen Zirkle (Pr. Tirzah). We're going to have fun in Tampa. There's plenty of business to work on, and there will be two break-out sessions, as well as all of the performances in the evening. If you haven't been to a Supreme Session before, I highly recommend it. We always have fun. I look forward to it.
I'm bringing back the Annual Nile Picnic. We're set for July 16th at 4 PM at Pr. Ellen Fisher's house. Please bring a dish to pass that will serve between eight and ten people and your own table service. The temple will be providing hot dogs, bratwurst, and buns. There will be iced tea, water, and coffee provided; if you want something else to drink, please bring it with you. The pool will be open and Steve will be running trains. If you have questions or need to get directions, please call Pr. Ellen at 989.777.3024.
The Supreme Queen's visit will be on August 10th (unless there's a change in the schedule). The dinner will be at 5:30 PM with the Ceremonial following (if you are coming to just the Ceremonial, please be to the Temple by 7 PM). We'll be having a rehearsal at 7:30 PM with the Unit practice beforehand.
We are still looking for some officers. If you are able to serve as Pr. Chaplin, Pr. Badoura, Pr. Zenobia, or Princess Zora, please contact the Queen, Pr. Recorder, or Pr. Royal.
Sickness and Distress:
I would like to extend my thoughts and prayers to everyone who have been sick or in the hospital. I hope everyone gets better soon.

First of all, my Installation has been changed to April 9th. We will be having a practice on April 5th for the Installation AND the Session.
This was changed because of the weather we've been having.
Thank you!

Wow, do we ever have a lot of things coming up!
First, I'd like to remind everyone about the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, March 8th. We will be electing new officers at this meeting, as well as going over all of the year end reports. As of this writing, we still need the following officers: Princess Badoura, Princess Zulemia, and Princess Zora. Please contact the Princess Royal if you are interested in serving in one of these roles or if you have questions about them.
The annual Indoor Yard Sale is coming up as well. We will be accepting donations of items for the yard sale table as well as donations for the bake sale. This is a joint effort with Martha Washington OES Chapter. Please come out and support the ladies and the Temple. We will need people to work on the bake sale table as well as the items table, so if you can help, please come out. You don't necessarily have to work all day, but even coming out for a couple hours helps!
We are going to try something different. On March 15th, we're having a Bennigan's FUNdraiser for Nile. If you want to participate, all you have to do is pick up a coupon from Princess Royal (Amy Hussey) or Princess Badoura (Ellen Zirkle) and show up between 12 and 9 PM to eat! That's it. Present the coupon to your server, and we will get 20% of the profits from your dinner or lunch. It's a great way to make some money and really simple for everyone. I mean, we all have to eat, right?
The Circus Appreciation Dinner at Circus Park is also coming up on Tuesday, March 22nd. This is for all the ladies who donated their time to making the Circuses successful. We will have more information about the time at the next Session.
We'll be having a practice for Officers Installation on Wednesday, March 23rd at 7:30 PM. The Unit will be practicing beforehand. Please come out so we can have a successful Installation.
Officers Installation is on March 26th at 7:30 PM. The Unit will march in before the actual ceremony starts. Please come out and support your officers.
Sickness and Distress:
Pr. Lila Butler, Mary Young PQ, Mary Alice Parcell PQ, and Pr. Jackie Boettcher are all having surgery in February. Pauline Parsons Noble, Richard Parsons, passed away in February. Cards would be appreciated.
There are also Ladies who have had colds and the flu. We hope everyone feels better soon!
